2021 January – Virtual Mobility in Slovenia
Mobility

Due to COVID-19 pandemic the mobility that was to be held in Slovenia had to be organised virtually. The Slovenia partners came up with a very interesting programme which was presented to all participants during the virtual meeting held on 26th January 2021.

Prior to this virtual meeting 2 other video conferences were held by the coordinators to discuss the way forward for the project during this pandemic.

Virtual Mobility Day 1
This virtual mobility kicked off with a welcome speech and introduction about Slovenia, followed by a virtual tour of the school.

Welcome
Luckily we did not have problems of internet connectivity and all participants enjoyed this warm welcome and tour prepared by Slovenia.

Virtual Tour of the School
The first activity was held in the gym and students made use of creating a sequence following instructions from flash cards. This activity is related to creating an algorithm in computational thinking.

First Activity Planned – Gym lesson
The second activity followed. Students made up a dance sequence using flash cards (preparing for coding) based on the song “Let’s go around the world). After the activity the Maltese students performed the dance as well.

Second Activity – Dancing with coding
The first day closed with an evaluation meeting with the coordinators. All agreed that the first day had been very successful, a great learning experience and all are looking forward to the second day of this virtual mobility.

Virtual tour, feedback and activity
Following a virtual tour of the primary school, students started their first task using Bee Bot while learning about the culture of Slovenia. It was a very interesting experience for all!

Introduction and preparation for the first activity

Hello from the Slovenian Students
The first activity involved the used of LEGO Wedo. Slovenia students constructed their own cranes and programmed them. Our Maltese students constructed cars and programmed them as well.

The second activity was a Kahoot quiz for students. A presentation was prepared in advance by students detailed with interesting facts about Slovenia. Then the quiz followed. Both Slovenian and Maltese students really enjoyed this quiz. Unfortunately the students from Italy and Portugal were on lock down so they could not participate live.

Learning about Slovenia prior to the quiz
The third day ended with an evaluation session. All countries agreed that technology helps to overcome the physical divide and this pandemic has thought us how to find alternative ways for the teaching pedagogy and learning experiences.
